Join Dennis Flaherty, Vedic Astrologer / Jyotishi, for this information-packed class.
Ayurveda, “the science of life” , is often studied in tandem with “Jyotish”, “the science of light”. They are identified as sister Vedic sciences. This class will introduce you to Jyotish, or what is commonly called Vedic astrology.
Whereas in many cultures the study of astrology is not considered a serious matter, in India Jyotish is considered a holy science as it is of the six recognized Vedangas or limbs of the Vedas; the holy bibles of Indian spirituality. Jyotish is proclaimed to the “eye” of the Veda for its ability to perceive the human condition.
This class will introduce you to the foundational cornerstones of Jyotish and its association with Ayurveda, as they share several elements in common. Above all, the study of Jyotish is the study of time. The Jyotishis of India created the original almanacs and calendars that mark the commencement of the seasons, and many calendrical festivals that permeate Indian culture. The study of our astrological chart is the study of our personal time and the timing of the experiences that have been allotted to us in this lifetime.
This class will teach you the doshas of the planets, and the domains of the body, and the domains of life in which they manifest—as well as the timing of manifestation. Lastly, it is important to realize that Vedic astrology is not merely a predictive science. Rather, it is humanistic art, as half of the literature on Jyotisha describes the karmic effects of the planets, and the other half describes how to propitiate and mitigate those karmas through remedial measures.
